A loud bang rang out, and instinctively I thought — Was it a gunshot? Could a stray bullet find me or Pepper?
My heart raced as my mind spun through worst-case scenarios. As the moments passed, my mind eased, knowing we were safe. During my stay at this Airbnb, I heard these loud bursts several times, always in a series — each one an invitation I hadn’t yet embraced.
On my last full day at this spot, immersed in the exploration of ancient beliefs and universal truths, I heard it again.
This time, I looked toward the sound and saw a tree swaying, as if breathing through an unseen release.
Unlike the earlier experiences, it happened only once —
as if the trees had heard my call the day before, and answered: accepting me as their student.
There was no violence, no threat.
Only nature, moving through a sudden natural shift.
With presence, I watched it gracefully move through the experience, softening with every sway. In a matter of moments, this seemingly “traumatic” event (if seen through human eyes) ended, and it returned to stillness.
The tree did not fight its own cracking or mourn what was lost.
It simply allowed what was.

Rooted in Change
In that surrender, it became something new:
A fallen limb that might now shelter a creature seeking refuge,
or wood that might one day offer warmth to human hands by a fire.
What I once met with fear, I now meet with awe and gratitude.
Nature reminds me: Change does not need to be feared.
Change, when embraced, can be a gift to all who accept it.
