The Power of Being

Have you ever heard someone say, “just be” and thought to yourself….how?! Well friends, In the power of being, I’m going to share my personal journey to hopefully  illuminate how you can move towards being.

Embodying Being

Intellectually, I understood the concept of being. You just are. You’re in the moment. It’s being present to what is. But to actually embrace and embody this…ooooof.

Now, I’ve lived in the rate race energy of NY and NJ most of my life, while also being riddled with anxiety. So for me, the act of just being, felt very very very hard. Aaand at the same time, it also became a ”should” the more I moved into spirituality.

Let’s explore how this very inaccessible “should” that I placed upon myself became a beautiful journey of understanding and softening to open the door towards the embodiment of being.

Feeling the Feels

The more I healed my wounds and my nervous system returned to a state of balance, the more I was able to be in stillness. Even when I was still living in NYC, I remember noticing this shift when I stopped listening to music and books while commuting. The additional stimulation made it that much more overwhelming to be there.

6 Yellow, red and blow balls with emoji faces expressing varying emotions placed on grass into two triangles. This is to reflect that just being is so hard as it means stillness which can mean scary emotions arise.

The more I was able to be with myself through stillness, meditation, contemplation, etc. the easier stillness became. This also allowed me to be present to and feel feelings and emotions that I never allowed myself to feel. My anxiety also started to soften more and more. I was beginning to realize the power of being!

I find for many people, the fear of stillness is not knowing what will arise. For me, it was feelings and emotions I was always too scared to embrace.

I was able to trust in myself that I could allow the energetic expression of these feelings and emotions to flow and thus, to be released. I realized how it was sooo much easier to do that as opposed to holding and suppressing them within.

My A-ha Moment

This journey into being came to a head this past spring, when I went on a 5 week adventure with Pepper exploring various mountain towns in Western North Carolina.

Throwing myself into the unknown created this sense of openness. Which thankfully allowed me to see and challenge belief systems and fears that were holding me back.

Midway through my travels, I was sitting outside looking at the trees. As I sat there, it dawned on me that the trees were just simply being

The trees were not trying to do anything. They weren’t trying to be anything other than what they are. The trees just were. They were being.

I looked around at all of the nature around me and it was light bulb after lightbulb going off. The trees, the flowers, the grass, the birds, the bees and Pepper!

I realized how all this time, Pepper was teaching me this. He is just simply in the moment. Whether he’s outside for hours watching the world go by or rolling in the grass. Pepper is the full expression of himself in every single moment. That friends, is the power of being!

Be the Tree

For quite some time after, I would tell myself, be the tree, Blair. Be the tree. Be exactly as you are. There is no need to try “to do” anything. No need to try to be anything other than what you are in this very moment. Embrace the ease of just being

Remember friends:

We are human beings, not human doings.

I’ve been sitting with this now for a few months. Trust me when I say, I am not being all day, every day! However, I am sloooowly embodying the state of being as I move through life.

Please enjoy The Power of Being Part Two, where I dive even deeper into how we can integrate this into our lives to better understand ourselves.
