This piece is hopefully going to be short and sweet as I write it in the moment it’s occurring. It’s about the intelligence of nature and how it supports us…if we tune in and listen.
Listen for the Messenger
A while back, I wrote a piece about feeling down and how a woodpecker turned it all around. Didn’t know I was a poet, eh? 🤭
Ever since that time, whenever I hear a woodpecker, I feel a sense of gratitude and a reminder to play. It invites an air of levity almost instantly.
But today felt different.
I was up all night because Pepper was having GI issues and it was my fault.
Unfortunately, I left his fish out too long after lunch. I thought it was within food safety guidelines, but forgot that fish is 2 hours.
So I had very little sleep and I was feeling irritated, tired and on edge – mostly directed toward myself.
Pep seemed far less bothered. My first cue to tune into the intelligence of nature, but I missed it.
Receiving the Message

I got off the phone with my mom because I could feel the irritation being projected onto her.
Shortly after, I heard a woodpecker.
Oh, the intelligence of nature and its divine timing.
Immediately, I felt this deep sense of gratitude and placed my hand over my heart.
I smiled and remembered the woodpecker’s original message about play.
I realized it’s not that serious. Feel your feelings, then move on and make the most of the day.
As the woodpecker continued much longer than usual, it felt like an invitation to write about this.
Funnily enough, I didn’t post anything this week despite having two pieces ready to go. I kept feeling a subtle should to post one, but trusted myself to wait for the green light.
It became clear to me. This experience was meant to be posted. The intelligence of nature truly blew my mind in that moment of realization.
And speaking to the intelligence and generosity of nature, the woodpecker did it’s thang almost the entire time I was writing. It was the longest I’ve heard one for a continuous period of time.
It seemed to stop as I found my flow, and the irritation and edge I was feeling vanished.
Tuning Into the Intelligene of Nature
Through this experience, my message to you is this:
The more we allow and receive from the world around us, in connection with the world within us, the less daunting this thing called life feels.
And remember that the intelligence of nature includes us as well. When we are in allowance and acceptance, there is nothing to do, for it is already present. It is simply a matter of tuning in or attuning to it…and shifting into alignment.
Where to Start
You might be thinking, how does one do that?
Start with what you know. The next time you change the channel or stream a new show, realize that is a similar energy to tuning in and finding the alignment in the moment.
You are aware that you want to make a change and what you are needing in the moment. You take aligned action and change what’s on the screen.
Whether it’s a phone or the screen of your mind, you are always in choice.
It might not feel that way because we’ve been taught otherwise and I’m here to tell you that it is. But only you can experience it for yourself.
I know for a fact that if this happened years ago, I would have said f*ck it to the whole day and engaged in behaviors to keep me feeling sh*tty all day long. How do I know that? Because that was my default, a mindset of disempowerment and victimhood.
What I can also tell you from my own experience, is that your hands are being lovingly held through the entire process. Whether it’s a spirit guide, a woodpecker, a tree – trust that you are being supported.
Side note: I know I can say anything here, but truly – I ended up having a really lovely day and felt like a functioning person in society. And Pepper, though still in the process of clearing out, initiated multiple walks into the forest and to go see his buddy!
Thank you Woodpecker!
Until next time, friends — stay curious.
