When the Deer Exited Stage Left
As the deer exited stage left, a joyful laugh of gratitude rose within me.
Let’s rewind the clock a few minutes to set the stage. And yes, pun intended.
This morning, Pepper and I had a beautiful experience with a deer. It was nothing out of the ordinary since diving deeper into my connection with the animal kingdom… and kingdom it is!
As we all were locked in on one another, I noticed that this experience felt different. It was very subtle, yet profound. A shift.
Pepper started to bark, and the deer casually started to walk away, stopping at moments to look towards us. As the the deer continued to walk, it moved into this little jog as it entered a more shady part of the woods and then once again returning to a slow walk once it was there.
I don’t quite know how to put this into words, but in that moment, Shakespeare’s words rang every so true:
All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
In that moment, it felt as though the deer was playing a role in its offering with us and then exited the stage when it was over. We were invited into the performance as well as a peak beyond the curtain – allowing us to watch it exit stage left and have a moment of reprieve in the wings.
For anyone not familiar with theatre jargon, the wings are where you go after exiting and before entering onto the stage. Unless you’re a method actor, the wings is where you can drop the mask of the character and return to you.

The Next Scene
I walked a bit more with Pepper and looked back and I kid you not, I watched the next scene unfold.
The sun created a circular light, as if it were a theatrical spotlight. Fully illuminated was the deer and a fawn eating food being offered by a human from the deck.
Watching this all unfold, I could sense the reality we exist in, the illusion of it, and the purposeful nature of each individual’s experience in form – all woven together in every moment of every day.
The Unfolding
This was not an isolated moment, for nothing ever is.
The day prior, I felt a distinct and unusual shift from a meditation while in a class I’m taking with a Sangoma. I didn’t know what shifted, but something shifted in a neutral way. It felt undefined, yet different.
It was subtle, yet profound – just as I felt in “scene 1″with the deer.
The Tipping Point
Now, let’s fast forward maybe 10 minutes after the deer exited stage left. Because this moment led to me realizing the power of being an active participant and observer in a changing timeline.
For context, I had made a pretty big decision to move forward with a change that would greatly alter my current experience of being nomadic. I had found us a home. I was doing the legwork and putting my trust in what Is.
While my excitement grew, I was also detached and in full trust of how it would unfold.
And then came the shift. A call learning that the path would not be unfolding.
I felt relief, and the joyful laughter of gratitude once again arose. To be fair, I had some dreams that set the stage (see what I did there 🤣) for this shift to be received with relief and gratitude.
From the meditation to that moment, I saw the interconnectedness and power of trust at play. Truth be told, there is so much more to this story from before the meditation, but I don’t feel it necessary for this particular offering. Perhaps in future posts so please stay tuned!
The Spiral Revealed
We’re not done yet friends! So let’s continue on….
I then found myself energetically feeling the spiral of existence.
Let me explain this last sentence because as I read it back, I can almost feel the confusion it might elicit.
This shift brought me back to where I was just a few weeks prior, but it felt completely different. I wasn’t quite sure how to proceed with so many paths before me. Yet, this time it was more grounded.
I felt this embodied experience of how we can move through lessons, dynamics, lifetimes over and over again. Though it may feel different and also similar, they are always connected – as we move along the infinite spiral that is beyond naming.

Trust in the Timing of Life
I may never know why this particular path or timeline shifted — and I don’t need to. Because I trust.
And so, I leave you with a gentle nudge to consider leaning into trust and to detach from outcomes.
When things don’t go the way you want them to go, trust there is a reason. If not for anything else, it just makes your experience of it so much more pleasant and easeful. And isn’t that what so many of us are needing right now?
Follow up
I wrote this piece that very day and about 1 week later – I found out why the home fell through. I was perhaps destined to be in the home that started the home search all along.
This was simply part of the journey. The release of this home opened the space for what I believe to be a much more expansive timeline. More to come as that lesson unfolds friends!
Until next time, stay curious💖
