I want to share a story about the power of trust and how it can deepen our sense of empowerment, especially during challenging times.
And be sure to read until the end for the surprise realization that came while writing this piece!
Losing Power
It was curious when the power went out in the middle of the night, despite no storm. I figured it’d be on by the morning and to be honest, I also wasn’t about to get out of bed to investigate. There is no cell service where I live, so it wasn’t like I could just call and see what was going on.
So when I woke up to no power, I grabbed my keys to drive to a spot where I could call the power company. But I didn’t make it very far before I discovered what happened.
A tree had fallen and taken out the power lines, yet I was the only one affected.
This felt purposeful.
So I climbed over the tree and walked up the road avoiding the downed power line until I found a strong enough cell signal to call.
Through all of this, I trusted.
To be honest, I had no other choice, especially because I couldn’t go anywhere with the road being blocked.
A life of Anxiety
Let’s put this into context.
Most of my life, I experienced a lot of anxiety and depression. I learned to mask it relatively well to the outside world, or at least I thought I did. And like so many, it was behind closed doors that it was too uncomfortable to feel. Hence why I found so many ways to escape it. Because of this, I fell into a deeply ingrained pattern of avoidance. Which usually just amplifies the anxiety and creates a negative feedback loop.
I’m a very different person these days, but I still find myself actively trying to release the pattern of avoidance.
To observe myself being so calm and trusting through this lesson, felt like a gold star sticker moment. Though personally, I would much prefer a Lisa Frank sticker!
Trusting In the Creative Flow
While Pepper and I waited for the fire department, I tapped into my new “power outage creative flow”.
Yup, I now have a power outage protocol. I’m quickly adapting to county living.
A few days prior when the power went out, I found myself looking at my books to find one to read. I felt drawn to a book of poems my mom got me a few years back.
As I opened the book to a “random” page, I found myself locked in on a word. I saw it through a different lens and in that moment, I found myself writing.
Spontaneous writing isn’t unusual these days, but what felt so unexpected and magical was that it came through as poetry.
I jumped right back into my protocol and let the poetry flow until people started to show up to remove the tree.
Once I knew it was being handled and I wasn’t needed, I felt the call to sleep. That’s part of the protocol too! I tune into the poems, write and then synchronistically sleep until the power is restored. I see the sleep not as avoidance, but as a restful sleep without any EMF influence.
What this pattern “means”, is not clear to me at this time. I’ll be sure to share if anything arises!
Power of Trust
5 hours after making the initial calls…
The tree was cleared, the lines were fixed, power was restored and I was grateful!
Because the power was out for 11 hours, I had to throw out most of what I had just bought the day prior and make my way back to the food store.
Fun fact, the day prior I had pushed myself to buy items I enjoy without them being on sale. It was the power of trust that also allowed me to not feel overwhelmed by guilt, anger and a sense of lack having to toss it all and buy it again.
I considered waiting because I wasn’t feeling great, but I only hesitated for a moment because I knew I needed to.
I also trusted there was a reason why I was meant to go back today. Thus, also not reinforcing the old pattern of avoidance.
Nothing “profound” happened while I was there, but I found myself leaving the food store feeling physically better and also having this sense of empowerment.
It was in that moment that I realized the power of trust.
In trusting through this process, I came to also trust in myself.
And as a result, I stepped into my power.
Trusting the Timing
Here’s where it gets interesting friends…
Though I felt very inspired to write about this experience, I didn’t. It wasn’t intentional, it was almost as though I “forgot” to do it.
A few weeks later, I found myself listening to someone talk about electricity and remembered the experience.
I honestly don’t know how or why, but as I wrote, I wondered it if was connected to the house I’m in now.
That thought had not occurred to me earlier, hence why I think I “forgot” to write about it until that very moment.
I realized that this experience it was the 1 year anniversary of putting in an offer on the house I am in.
Trusting in the Challenges
This house came to me as out of the blue as the tree falling without any storm or strong winds.
And not once, but twice.
You see it found me while I was nomadic at an airbnb.
It’s a long story that I’ll share in time, but driving to that airbnb I declared to the universe that I was done being nomadic. I knew it was time to ground down and the drive there was the worst drive I’ve ever experienced. Clearly, the Universe was telling me something. I had no intentions of buying a home, but a few days later through some synchronistic nudges, I learned about this house the very day it was listed.
For many reasons, I decided the house was not for me, but I felt very connected to the area and thought it was a sign I was meant to settle down there. I found a fixer upper and had an accepted offer. That is until the seller backed out a few days before the inspection.
I actually wrote about that experience in this piece, which is also all about trust. Coincidence, I think not!
I had already booked the non refundable airbnb before my realtor reached out. And honestly, I was angry because I booked it after they pulled out, but she waited to let me know.
But I heard a message…”you’re meant to be there“.
So I trusted.
A Puzzle Piece Reveals Itself
While there, I found another house that was perfect on paper, but something felt off.
The night before we were going to return for the 3rd time, my realtor called.
The buyer for the house that originally found me pulled out. The house was calling me back in, yet again.
Though I had no interest in the house anymore, I wanted the agent to see it. We went that next day and I realized for some reason I’m meant to be here and the rest is history.
There is so much more to this story, which I’ll share in time.
The point for today is that, that shift in the trajectory of my life was exactly 1 year prior to the tree falling.

Surrender and Trust
What it all means? That’s not clear to me yet.
I have complete trust that if I’m meant to know, I will.
What I do know is that this house found me through the process of surrender and trust and this power outage was yet another opportunity to do so.
I invite you to step into surrender and trust if this is resonating for you at any level. I didn’t just jump into this on a whim, it took time. Perhaps pick an area of your life where you feel you could begin to let go of the reigns and surrender and trust into the unknown.
And until next time friends, stay curious!
